Irvin Tools Night Race Packages
Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee is one of the most popular tracks on the NASCAR circuit and both of the Sprint Cup races held there are sold out far in advance. The biggest of the two races at Bristol is the Irwin Tools Night Race, which was formerly known as the Sharpie 500. The history of this race goes all the way back to 1961 as the Volunteer 500 (since Tennessee is the Volunteer State) and it has undergone several name changes since then. For nearly a decade it was the Sharpie 500, but in 2010 it will take on a new name. But that won’t make tickets any easier to get, and Irvin Tools Night Race tickets figure to be one of the toughest NASCAR tickets of the entire year.
As the Sharpie 500, this race featured some of the biggest names in racing as the winners with Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart all winning since 2001. Part of the reason for the popularity of the race is the racetrack itself. Bristol Motor Speedway is kind of like the Fenway Park of NASCAR and there is simply no other facility like it. At about three-quarters of a mile around, Bristol features extremely tight turns and high banking. That results in relatively slow speeds (the average speed is usually around 90 mph), but it also results in some of the most exciting racing action with lots of rubbin’, bumpin’ and of course crashing.
