After years of suffering the Cleveland Browns have finally reached the point where fans can fly their colors without fear. The Browns are now a force in the AFC North. 2006 started off the same old way for Cleveland as the Pittsburgh Steelers came into Cleveland Browns Stadium and put a 34-7 pasting on the home team. Then it all changed in Week 2. The Cincinnati Bengals and their high scoring offense came to Cleveland, looking for an easy win. But Browns quarterback Derek Anderson lit up the Bengals secondary with five touchdown passes, throwing for 328 yards and leading the Browns to victory in a 51-45 shootout.
From there the Browns never looked back, finishing the season at 10-6 as fans in Cleveland called for a Pro Bowl berth for Anderson and the Browns finished second in the division, narrowly missing a playoff berth. With Anderson now the starter and former Notre Dame standout Brady Quinn waiting in the wings the Browns are set at quarterback for the near future. Adding a solid wide receiver in the NFL draft and some beef at running back could have Browns fans thinking Super Bowl next year.
