The Kansas City Chiefs were good enough to make the playoffs in 2006, posting a 9-7 record and advancing to an AFC Wild Card game before falling to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. Fans packed Arrowhead Stadium in 2007 hoping for more of the same. They didn’t get it. Herm Edwards and crew lost starting quarterback Damon Huard and backup Brodie Croyle suffered through the usual adjustments of inexperience. Throw in the loss of running back Larry Johnson to nagging injuries and the result was a 4-12 campaign that left a bitter taste in the mouths of Chiefs fans.
Herm Edwards has been here before. Remember, the New York Jets were a study in ineptitude before Edwards put them back in the Super Bowl hunt. The Kansas City Chiefs have the two most important elements necessary for future success: A young quarterback with talent in Brodie Croyle and a monster running back in Pro Bowl favorite Larry Johnson. Avoiding injury is the key here. With Johnson healthy the Chiefs can run on anyone, giving Croyle time to develop. Spending a few draft choices on the defense should go a long way too. Overall, we look for the Kansas City Chiefs to bounce back and challenge in the AFC West in the near future.
