From all outward appearances the Miami Dolphins have nowhere to go but up. After barely missing a winless season at 1-15, Miami looked to be going nowhere fast. So what does management do? They reach for the biggest fish in the football world, tapping Bill “Tuna” Parcells to come in and set them on the right path. The Super Bowl winning coach always seems to have the answers. Tuna’s first move? Dump the old GM and bring in his buddy from the Dallas Cowboys Jeff Ireland as GM. Then it was time to move on to the coach. Cam Cameron was doomed despite his reputation as an offensive guru. Parcells raided the Cowboys again, taking Tony Sparano, his old offensive line coach, to take the head coaching position.
Can Sparano make Dolphins Stadium a respectable venue again? Parcells and Sparano have chosen a very tough task. The Dolphins reside in the toughest conference in the NFL and have maybe the best team in NFL history in their division, the AFC East. Then again, the Miami Dolphins have a potential franchise quarterback in John Beck and that’s a good start. With some creative changes on the offensive line and a revamping of the formerly Pro Bowl laden defense, Parcells and Sparano could have a competitive team pretty quickly.
