With six Super Bowl Championships to their name, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to get back in the groove. It started with the hiring of new Head Coach Mike Tomlin, one of the younger and brighter assistants in the league. Tomlin set out to improve the Steelers fortunes by maintaining a strong running game but throwing a few more kinks into the aerial attack. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger recovered from his down year of 2006 and responded with a 32 touchdown year, racking up over 3,000 yards through the air. The running game didn’t slack off either as Willie Parker ran for 1,316 yards before suffering a broken leg late in the year.
It was all good enough to put Pittsburgh back into contention in the AFC North, a division contest that saw the Steelers edge out the Cleveland Browns for the title. Two wins over the Browns, another pair over the Cincinnati Bengals, and an early season victory at Heinz Field over the Baltimore Ravens put Pittsburgh in the driver’s seat. Now it remains for Tomlinson to give his Pro Bowl quarterback enough weapons to deliver another Super Bowl to the Steel City. A tweak here and a tweak there could put the Steelers back in the same class with the Patriots and the Colts.
