French Open Packages
The French Open at Roland Garros in Paris, France, is the only one of the four Grand Slam events played on a clay court, and that’s just part of what makes it such a popular event. The Roland Garros facility, or Stade de Roland Garros, is a truly special place to watch a tennis tournament. The venue opened up in 1928 and of course has undergone a series of changes and renovations since then, but it still maintains much of its historical charm. The primary court at Roland Garros is the Court Philippe Chatrier, which is part of the original facility and holds about 15,000. The future of the historic stadium remains to be seen as a new center court stadium with a retractable roof is currently under construction. Roland Garros also has the Court Suzanne Lenglen, which was built in 1994 and holds approximately 10,000 spectators.

Because different players excel on different surfaces, the clay courts of the French Open sometimes produce surprising results. Although Justine Henin won three straight French Opens from 2005-07, the recent editions have featured some big upsets with Francesca Schiavone winning in ’10 to become the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam event. On the men’s side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have taken every French Open since ’05 with Nadal coming out on top four times to Federer’s one title.
