Ford Field
Ford Field is a familiar sight for most sports fans. The home of the Detroit Lions of the NFL, Ford Field is prominently displayed in homes across the country as it hosts the annual Thanksgiving Day game. This 70,000 seat stadium was opened in 2002 and serves a sister to the Detroit Tigers Comerica Park which is right across the street. Ford Field Only a few years old Ford Field has already hosted its first Super Bowl (2006) and plans are underway to bring March Madness and the Final Four to Detroit in 2009 as well as a regular schedule of concerts.
The City of Detroit incorporated some unusual features into the design of Ford Field. On one side of the stadium a historic Detroit warehouse was melded into the design and houses luxury suites. The stadium was also built with a low profile that keeps it from becoming too prominent in the Detroit skyline. Built to take advantage of natural light, Ford Field uses skylights throughout the building, creating the feel of an open stadium while keeping comfort high for patrons.
